For the past couple of years I have had the amazing opportunity of being one of the makeup artists and hair stylists for TED. For those of you who don’t know about TED, whose acronym stands for Technology, Education & Design, it is a conference in which the most brilliant minds in the world share their ideas about different topics. If you have never been enlightened by the world of TED I highly suggest you go to their website at www.ted.com watch some of their videos. TED offers something for absolutely everyone.
Being a part of TED has been an unbelievably enlightening experience for me. The first TED conference I had the privilege of working on was in 2013 in Long Beach, which really opened my eyes to the brilliance of those that take the stage at TED and the passion they have for their work. I have watched TED videos for years (my boyfriend makes it a point to watch at least one of their videos every day), but there is really nothing like having the opportunity to interact with the speakers and to see them divulge their knowledge live and in person.
Both TED2013 and TED2014 have truly been some of the best weeks of my life. Have the opportunity to visit Vancouver and work with the TED staff and all of the amazing speakers was incredible. Besides the knowledge that I gained, the best part about the conference was the comradery and friendships I developed with the whole staff. In Vancouver I saw a lot of familiar faces from 2013, and to get to know some of these people on a deeper level really was special.
To make a conference like TED run as smoothly and seamlessly as it does it takes an amazing group of people, and TED2014 was no different. The hair and makeup team for this event consisted of myself, Jessica and Nadia (all of whom you can see in the picture below)- we had an awesome time working together. I absolutely love being a makeup artist for conferences & special events– there is really nothing like it.
I want to thank Priscilla at TED for bringing me on as part of the event this year. I am so very thankful for the opportunity, and left Vancouver inspired. I also want to thank all of the other wonderful people at TED (to many people to name)- I can’t tell you all how much I admire your passion for what you do.
I’m now back in Southern California and am happy to be home, but will always deeply cherish the memories and friendships that came out of TED2014. I am truly blessed.
